Illinois Supreme Court Upholds Consumer Privacy Rights: A landmark case overturns ruling of appellate court, finding consumers don’t need actual injury to sue for privacy violations.

“Privacy has become a hot-button issue from Main Street to Wall Street. In the recent Davos meeting, political and business leaders all agreed to push for a new international system for oversight of data processing. US policy and lawmakers are just as keen to deliver a federal bill to protect consumers. Companies should therefore be responsive to and anticipate the changes these privacy laws have and will usher in. Now more than ever, their privacy strategy should be an important part of their revenue strategy, because in the near future, data privacy will make or break their business.”
