About the Raspberry Pi
The Raspberry Pi remote scanning project is used to aid The Media Trust (TMT) in fixing the internet by supplementing our global scanning capabilities. The remote nature of these devices allows The Media Trust to identify more targeted malware and provide additional creative quality assurance support.
How It Works?
The Media Trust uses this hardware as a gateway to the internet. From this entry point, we can access and experience the real-world behavior of the internet, websites, and mobile application interactions as a consumer. By accessing the internet is this manner, TMT can identify malware specifically targeted to your geographical location and/or your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
The Media Trust utilizes the SSH Protocol and its Public Key Authentication to create a safe and secure connection to these remote devices. Commands and information are relayed via this protected pipeline ensuring data remains guarded.
The Media Trust respects your privacy and is committed to ensuring no unauthorized personal or user-identifying information is accessed, collected or shared by us. The Media Trust uses the Raspberry Pi to browse the internet from your location and does not interact with any other devices on your network.
To ensure the integrity of the scanning process, The Media Trust captures, records, and files limited device-specific information regarding the use and operation of the Raspberry Pi. Stored at TMT’s main office, this data includes the individual’s name to whom the device is issued (First and Last name, aka “assignee”), physical address where the device will be in use, assignee’s email address and phone number, and the assignee’s ISP service accessed by the device. This personal information is required to initiate the service and improve performance of the hardware device when necessary.
The Media Trust DOES NOT:
- collect or store any of your internet activity or browsing history.
- collect, log, or store identifiable personal information outside of that which was provided to us upon the initiation of the service and the IP address for which the hardware is attached.
- share any personally identifiable information of our users to any external party.
Confirm your package contains 3 items: Ethernet cable (white cord, figure 1) + Raspberry Pi device (clear plastic case with contents of figure 2) + USB power cable (black plug with cord, figure 3)
- Plug the ethernet cable (Figure 1) into the ethernet port on the Raspberry Pi (Figure 2, port A on bottom right).
- Connect the other end of the ethernet cable into your router or cable modem ensuring that both ends fit securely.
- Plug the micro USB power cable (Figure 3) into the Micro USB port (Figure 2, port B on bottom left) and into power outlet.
- Send email to Raspberry@themediatrust.com confirming that the device has been plugged in. You will receive verification that the setup is correct and scanning initiated.
