System Administrator – Data Center Operations

The Media Trust Infrastructure Operations team is looking for a System Administrator – Data Center Operations to join our growing team. This role will be a hands-on contributor responsible for building, maintaining and supporting our data center cloud infrastructure systems. The ideal candidate will have experience with administration of Linux systems, network devices (routers, firewalls, etc), web application servers (Apache) and hands-on experience racking and cabling in a data center environment. The candidate will be a part of a team where you will have an opportunity to learn and grow over time, while contributing to the overall mission of the company.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform system administration tasks in support of our infrastructure systems, i.e. OS upgrades, configuration updates, installation of new software, etc;
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and manage servers, network devices, and network-attached storage;
  • Receive new gear and build/rack systems as needed in the data center;
  • Provide on-premise hands-on support in the data center when needed;
  • Automate repeatable tasks to improve efficiency and quality of services;
  • Implement and maintain health monitoring and alerting of servers;
  • Support 24/7 operations as part of a team that rotates first response duties;
  • Participate in training sessions and skills development to become more proficient in your job duties over time.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, be a quick learner, and bring key technical skills with a desire to grow and improve. The candidate must have a strong combination of the following:

  • Undergraduate degree preferred but not required
  • 3+ years of experience supporting IT systems hands-on in a 24/7 operating environment;
  • 2+ years experience with Linux systems administration tasks, such as installation, configuration, management, lock down, security, patching and updating;
  • Experience working in a data center environment racking physical servers;
  • Experience with database systems is a plus, specifically PostgreSQL;
  • Technical training/certification is a plus;
  • For this role, we will support working students in local technology degree programs who want to apply their skills as they learn them.

The Media Trust is currently a 100% remote workforce due to the pandemic. We expect to return to a collaborative office environment sometime after the pandemic restrictions subside. This role will be 100% remote initially, and then based in our Northern Virginia/Tysons Corner office at a future date.
