API Developer

This role is responsible for maintaining and optimizing existing automated API-based integrations The Media Trust maintains with clients and third-party systems.  The candidate would serve as the overall API technology expert within Engineering to maintain, optimize, and develop mission-critical capabilities and integrations with new systems. The role requires hands-on development and operational support for multiple API platforms.  In addition, the candidate will serve in a consultative role as the SME, collaborating internally with Product, Sales, and Customer Success to deliver value to our clients. 


  • Serve as subject matter expert for API integrations
  • Develop/maintain/optimize microservices and APIs
  • Collaborate with internal teams, to define, develop, and implement reusable services and APIs
  • Actively collaborate with multiple stakeholders, working in an agile, fast paced, entrepreneurial environment
  • Work across teams to establish and maintain policies/procedures, standards, documentation and governance processes for APIs
  • Specific Duties:
    • Hands-on development of APIs, microservices, and the deliverables made available to clients
    • Monitor and maintain automated processes 
    • Optimize/develop new monitoring mechanisms
    • Participate in emergency technical support and planned maintenance activities


  • 3+ years of experience and demonstrated knowledge of PHP and OOP
  • 3+ years experience with SOAP Services and RESTful APIs utilizing a lightweight data-interchange format such as JSON
  • 3+ years working with HTML and JavaScript
  • 3+ years of SQL and relational database experience (PostgreSQL is a plus)
  • Expert problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, team building, and presentation skills
  • Expert skills in effectively communicating technical and non-technical issues and information clearly and concisely to all levels of management and staff, both verbally or in writing.
  • Experience in translating complex business requirements into functional architecture solutions
  • Experience collaborating with all levels of staff, management, stakeholders and vendors
  • Advanced skill troubleshooting and resolving technical problems
  • Familiarity or experience around the following areas are a plus:
    • Experience implementing API security using OAuth, SAML, etc.
    • Cloud platforms (Google Cloud, AWS, MS Azure)
    • Code-versioning systems (Git, Subversion, etc.)
    • Automated testing tools
    • Agile with Scrum/Kanban
